Vanilla Chai Oatmeal

As I am in love with flavored tea, I’ve decided to dedicate a little portion of my fancy shmancy blog to tea-infused oatmeals. Why oatmeal?

That’s easy! Simply put, oatmeal is a warm and cozy comfort that can be enjoyed pretty much any time of day. Coincidentally, the same can be said for hot tea. And since brands like Stash, Celestial Seasonings, TAZO, and Republic of Tea all have the most wonderful flavors to choose from, I can’t just stop at one recipe.

So  welcome to the very first recipe: you know it had to be Chai.

Chai is one of the most rich and distinctly-flavored teas in the bunch; and it was the first choice for making a creamy, yet spicy hot bowl of oats. Who doesn’t love a sweet, but robust Chai tea latte?

This oatmeal concoction blends the strong flavor of Chai Tea with the light sweet vanilla flavor to make one damn good bowl of awesome. Go on, try some out.

Here’s how you make it for yourself…


Vanilla Chai Oatmeal


1/2 cup old fashioned quick oats

2 tea bags of vanilla chai

1/2 cup of canned light coconut milk (or almond milk)

1/2 cup water

3 Tbsp Stevia or Splenda

1/4 tsp Ground Ginger

1/4 tsp Allspice

1/2 tsp Ground Cinnamon

1/4 tsp vanilla extract


In a small saucepan, heat the milk, water, sweetener, and spices.  When the mixture simmers, add the two tea bags and steep for 3 minutes. Try to keep the mixture at a light simmer, stirring constantly. Remove tea bags and pour substance  over quick oats and stir. Let sit to thicken up a bit then serve.

This recipe makes enough for a single serving, but you can double or triple it if you have people knocking at your door, asking to try your new, delicious oatmeal.  I’ll happily take credit if you make new friends.

Again, look out for future tea-infused oatmeal recipes, as I strongly suspect these will become my new experimental projects.  So I cook in the name of SCIENCE!!!
